Best Music Videos – 2020(so far...)

Updated: Aug 2, 2020

Music videos help to create an interest and a buzz surrounding a song, as well as helping an artist to get across what he/she wants to be told in the song.

It also connects an artist and a listener, as well as connecting a listener to an audience simplifying the musical process. Some may argue music videos are as important as the song as a bad video may push them further away from liking a song. What are your thoughts?

Anyways back to the point; we wanted to share with you our favourite music videos of 2020 so far. Let us know if we missed some of your favourites by commenting under the post.

6. KATIE “Echo”

Director: Paranoid Paradigm - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8ZEac4TNnGI

Although without a narrative through-line, the disconnection in the scenes suggest a story of deception and we are in love with the colours used.

5. The Weeknd - Blinding Lights

This video is the perfect aesthetic for fast cars and ultraviolence and picks up right from where his last single "Heartless," left off, and features a trippy joyride through a combination of Fremont Street, Las Vegas and Downtown Los Angeles (the video was shot in both locations). We love the details in this video.

4. Knucks – Home

The visual just like the song takes us on a journey through the lives of two young men and how a simple dispute amongst each other escalates and led to death. We experience a bit of nostalgia from many scenes in this video.

3. BenjiFlow - Wonder Girl

Benji dedicates this video to the people of Tarkwa Bay, Nigeria; who lost their homes and their community. The video shares photogenic shots of beautiful black women styled to perfection by Pat Ada Eze. The video and song makes us feel warm.

2. SiR “John Redcorn”

Directors: Daniel Russell & Dominic Polcino - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZmSORFI2XzU

We couldn’t have imagined a better video for this song. “John Redcorn,” named after a character in the animated sitcom King of the Hill, a sage Native American masseuse in a long-time affair with the wife of a gullible exterminator. The music video takes the inspiration a step further, depicting an all-black alternate version of the show with SiR as Redcorn and Kendrick Lamar, ScHoolboy Q, and the rest of the Black Hippy crew animated to look like the cast. It’s a “oh-so” nostalgic.

1. Jords – Almost An Adult (Film)

Directors: Cutis Essel (33 Bound) - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tsKf1v7FjVo

This film is dedicated to the memory of Jasmine Edwards, Jeremiah Edwards, Roy Wilks, Lorena July & Pauline Chambers Jords. Jords states that this film is the truest representation of him as an artist and as a man. It represents the journey that he had to take on the way to becoming a man and we definitely see it in every single detail. This is eeasily our favourite video of 2020 so far…
